Geiger-Mueller Counter Experiments


The GM counter and software collect data on radiation levels, either a single value or a series of values as a function of time.

Some possible experiments are:

Measure radioactivity levels from natural materials;
Measure variation of natural background from different building materials;
Measure statistical variations in background or activity of a sample;
Demonstrate variation of background levels due to radon in a basement with and without ventilation;
Detection of radon decay products on electrostatically charged surfaces like computer monitor screens;
By collecting airborne particulate matter with a vacuum cleaner and filter paper , demonstrate and measure half-life of radioactive decay of Ra daughters after the vacuum is stopped.
